Upon completion of this knowledge-based activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Review with the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act and its major amendments.

  2. Describe the drug classification system set forth in the federal Controlled Substances Act, including rules for ordering, dispensing, and record-keeping.

  3. Compare federal requirements from requirements of the Arizona Controlled Substances Act.

  4. Identify those who have prescribing authority in Arizona.

  5. Describe the structure, composition, and licensing and enforcement authority of the Arizona Board of Pharmacy (the "Board").

  6. Classify licensing requirements for pharmacists, pharmacy interns, graduate interns, pharmacy technicians and technician trainees.

  7. Recognize actions that may subject a pharmacist to disciplinary action by the Board and understanding of the possible penalties.

  8. Identify permitted activities for pharmacists, pharmacy interns, graduate interns, pharmacy technicians and technician trainees and with the rules for pharmacy technician training programs.

  9. Review Board permits for pharmacies and other facilities and possible sanctions against permit for rule violations.

  10. Describe the rules for generic substitution of equivalent products for brand name prescription products.

  11. Define Board regulation of collaborative drug therapy management agreements, including locations permitted, pharmacist eligibility and duties, physician duties, and requirements for quality assurance, privacy and documentation.

  12. Describe the controlled substances prescription monitoring program, including the purpose, required reports, and penalties for failure to report.
